Accommodation
If you are staying in the Nelson region for a few days, The Honest Lawyer invites you to relax and enjoy your stay from our 4 star boutique hotel. We have 13 rooms to choose from, each designed to suit an indulgent break while offering home away from home comfort.
All of our rooms have en-suites and facilities to make your stay as comfortable as possible, including free tea and coffee or fruit juice, Sky television, fax machine, internet jack points, bathrobes, hairdryers, ironing facilities and central heating. Portacots and room service are available on request.
Rose Cottage is situated in an adjacent building and boasts a king-size bed, as well as a fold down bed, in its open plan bedroom and sitting room. It has its own parking, a small front garden and a paraplegic en-suite bathroom. The unit offers privacy and comfort and is perfect for a longer stay.
The Honeymoon Suite is popular for newly married couples or a romantic weekend away. Opulently furnished, the room has a canopied king-size bed and an en-suite bathroom complete with a claw foot bath and double shower.
The double and single rooms are all furnished to reflect the English character of The Honest Lawyer. Each has a king-size bed, or king single configurations, and en-suite bathroom. Some offer private parking and a spa bath, ideal for relaxing after a day exploring the Nelson region.
Restaurant
Whether you want to go out for a casual meal, get together a group of friends for a celebration or hold a more formal function, our restaurant at The Honest Lawyer is the perfect spot.
We offer an extensive English-style menu with a twist of the Pacifica. We pride ourselves in sourcing fresh, local produce wherever possible, taking advantage of the wonderful array of produce our sunny climate yields.
Our menu changes regularly to give our cuisine a seasonal flavour such as Seafood Chowder, Doubled braised Lamb Shanks and Beef Sirloin on marque potato w/ portobello mushrooms, crispy bacon & bernaise sauce. Our popular house specialities, such as Steak & Guinness pie are always available. Traditional meals such as fish and chips, steak or salmon also feature in our menu, and we also cater for vegetarians.
Why not choose a beverage to compliment your meal? We have a choice of 13 beers on tap, including imported beers from the UK such as Guinness, Bass or Kilkenny, and also stock the local Macs range. We have a full range of bottled beers and an extensive wine list comprising a selection of excellent local red and white wines.
Dine by the fire in the winter, or outside in the sun on our lawn overlooking the Waimea Estuary when the weather suits. Our dining room is available for small functions, or you can hire the Banquet Room for weddings or conferences.
The restaurant is open for breakfast from 7am. There is a snack menu available throughout the day, as well as lunch and dinner menus. Food is available until 9.30pm.
About Us
The Honest Lawyer has become a Nelson icon with friendly service, a relaxing atmosphere and excellent food and accommodation making it a perfect stop for locals and visitors alike.
The Honest Lawyer was first opened in 1995. Our surroundings tell a different story though, and mirror many English country pubs several centuries old. Particularly inviting is the comfortable seating in the pub and restaurant area, with a stunning view of the Waimea Estuary and the mountains in the distance. In the summer, there is plenty of seating outside on the lawn while winter offers the perfect opportunity to curl up next to the huge open fire. Knick-knacks and memorabilia cover the walls, and the huge tree in the middle of the bar is an interesting talking point.
