As our name might suggest, we are located in the foothills of the Canterbury Plains with panoramic views of the stunning Southern Alps in the South Island of New Zealand.

Our place is 3 hours drive from Kaikoura, 3.5 hours to Mt Cook and just 4.5 hours to Queenstown along the Inland Scenic Route 72.

We are only just over one hour's drive from Christchurch International Airport and only 15 mins from the well known Mt Hutt Ski Area. We are also an easy 15 min drive from Methven, a town boasting a wide array of cafes, restaurants and plenty of things to do.

Our home is situated in the midst of 3 acres of park-like gardens and beyond this stretches 60 acres of farmland, where we graze cattle and sheep and raise lambs and calves in the spring.

We have many pets and a team of 8 working sheep dogs - you will get to see these working dogs in action and hand feed other farm animals when you come to stay!

Our accommodation is clean and comfortable with separate en-suite facilities. We can also accommodate up to 12 camper-vans - park amongst mature trees with fantastic mountain views.

You will wake up to incredible tranquility and a hearty country breakfast served in the gardens or on the deck if the weather is fine. Dinner is additional and can be arranged on request and is to be recommended as Anna is an excellent cook (or so Ken says and he should know...)

Accommodation
Our rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean. There are 2 rooms with queen size beds and separate en-suites. In addition there is a third room with 2 single beds - perfect for families or 2 friends. This room can be joined up with one of the queen rooms via the shared en-suite if required.

Breakfast is included in the tariff and dinner can be arranged on request. The warm relaxing homestead is set in 3 acres of beautiful gardens.

Our pet animals enjoy company and at different times of the year there will be new lambs and calves.

You will get to see working dogs in action and feed tame animals during your stay with us - or simply curl up in a warm corner with a book and relax...

    Skiing & Snowboarding

Another highlight of this area is the internationally renowned ski resort of Mount Hutt. Known to have the most consistent snow and longest season in the Southern Hemisphere, this resort boasts high speed chairlifts, great learner facilities and also a stylish base area with cafes and sunny decks. If skiing or snowboarding isn't your thing, it's still well worth the trip for the views - you can ride the chairlift just for the scenic trip and the view over the back of Mt Hutt is jaw dropping.

In addition there are a further 6 smaller ski and club areas within 1.5 hour's drive and some of the best heliskiing in the world in the mountain ranges directly behind your view at the top of this page.

    Hiking & Walking
One of the highlights of this beautiful region are the stunning walkways and tracks. Right on the back doorstep of Alpine Views Farmstay is the main entrance to the Mount Somers Tracks.

While the Mount Somers Walkway (two-day) and Mount Somers sub alpine circuit (two-day) are a must for the serious hiker, the Mount Somers Conservation Area features a variety of walks, varying in time from one hour to five hours. Highlights include the popular picnic spots at Woolshed Creek and Sharplin Falls. We offer a transport service - we can take you to the start of the tracks and then when you emerge at the end, hot, tired (but triumphant!) we will organise to meet you and bring you back to Alpine Views for a hot shower and comfortable bed.
