Sustainability

Our sustainability will be an ongoing journey which should improve with time and experience. In order to achieve this we pledge the following:

• To think before we buy – we buy locally and order bulk whenever possible. We re-use or cycle before buying new.
• To think before we use – By efficient use of energy, water, office products, fuel and other resource we ensure our business reduces the environmental impact.
• To think before we discard – we recycle and compost as much waste as possible.
• To educate and grow – happy, well informed staff are a crucial asset to our business success and the guest experience. Our business will train and inform staff so they actively participate in helping our environmental sustainability.

We hope you leave The Colonial Lodge Motel knowing that your actions have helped us to maintain or enhance this lovely region.

Napier (Ahuriri in Maori) is a port city in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand. It has a population of 57,000. The town is 332 kilometres (about four hours) northeast by road from the capital, Wellington.

It has a population smaller than Hastings District, but as Hastings is administered as a district, Napier is the only official city in the Hawke's Bay region. Napier is a popular retirement town and tourist resort, and has one of the most photographed tourist attractions in the country, a statue on Marine Parade called Pania of the Reef. Her statue is regarded in Napier in much the same way that the Little Mermaid statue is regarded in Copenhagen. In October 2005 the statue was stolen, but it was recovered a week later, largely unharmed.
