Luxury New Zealand bed and breakfast accommodation, The Peppertree is situated close to the Marlborough Sounds, in sunny Blenheim. The Peppertree is a luxury historic hotel offering the perfect retreat for exploring Marlborough.

The Peppertree luxury bed and breakfast is located on 10 acres of lush farmland near Blenheim, New Zealand in the heart of the Marlborough wine region and is surrounded by an extensive country garden, a boutique vineyard and olive grove. Built in 1901 from native timbers, it takes its name from the grove of Pepper Trees (Schinus molle) which line the drive leading to the gracious Edwardian Villa. The timeless feel of this beautiful hotel accommodation flows through into each of the five guests suites, where the ambiance of an open fire prevails. Winters are cosy at The Peppertree as the warmth of central heating pervades our luxury bed and breakfast.

Stroll around the lovely garden planted with New Zealand native trees and soak up the birdsong, fresh air and relaxing atmosphere. Enjoy a mouth-watering breakfast in the rich ambience of the dining room with its open fireplace, or perhaps savour the taste of a superb glass of world famous Marlborough wine as you stroll within the tranquil setting that is The Peppertree.

The Peppertree experience can be as full or as relaxing as visitors wish - from soaking up the Marlborough sun around the swimming pool, a game of pétanque or croquet, or an individual tour exploring the Marlborough wineries. Your hosts, Heidi and Werner, are always happy to arrange tours with knowledgeable local guides.

Accommodation
The Peppertree has five well appointed and beautifully detailed suites for guests, each with their own particular character and charm complete with fireplace, verandah or balcony. All of our rooms have direct dial ISDN telephone, a colour TV, fridge and mini-bar. Coffee and tea, home-baked cookies and fresh fruit, electric blankets, a nice selection of toiletries, a hairdryer and a high quality bathrobe are also provided. Wireless internet access is also available to our guests. Please select the tabs below to find out more about our suites.

The William Morris Suite
The charm of yesteryear is evoked as you enter this large, gracious room with king size bed and antique furniture. A grand kauri fireplace commands attention as does the genuine 'turn of the century' light fitting, original wallpaper and matching frieze. The room is spacious and airy, attracting all day sun through large windows and double doors. The doors open out on to a verandah and garden, and offer an alternative entrance.

In the en-suite bathroom with shower the eye is drawn to the free standing bath opposite a magnificent wooden fireplace with antique tile surrounds. It is tastefully furnished in keeping with the theme of the homestead.

The Dormer Suite
Nestled under the dormer roof, up a short flight of stairs, is a charmingly romantic suite of rooms ideal for a honeymoon couple seeking quietness, privacy and seclusion. The highlight of the room is the magnificent white queen size bed, prettily draped in white muslin and bedecked with cushions and pillows.

A balcony overlooks the courtyard and attractive garden and the eye is drawn over the trees to the majestic mountains in the distance. The large adjoining en-suite is light and spacious with tiled walls, and incorporates a spa/bath, shower and a delightful little picture window depicting The Peppertree design, after which the villa was named.

The Sunset Suite
Aptly named for its aspect that allows you to enjoy the sun setting in the west, this pretty room has french doors leading to a private garden. Here, the songs of bellbirds, fantails and other New Zealand native birds greet you in the morning. Climbing roses, pretty hedges, shrubs and blossom trees surround this sanctuary where you may choose to take breakfast alfresco.

The garden allows private access to your suite. An attractive en-suite adjoins the Sunset room, providing a shower and special non slip tiles under foot.

The Garden Suite
If you need a delightful place to relax then you will enjoy the peace on offer in the Garden Suite. This generously proportioned and tastefully decorated room includes a beautifully New Zealand crafted solid wood stand-alone wardrobe complete with full length mirror. Your eye is drawn to the imposing French doors leading on to a private verandah and garden with a calming water feature, inviting you to enjoy the evening sunshine. There are twin or king size bed options and attractive New Zealand prints adorn the walls.

You step down into an attractive en-suite bathroom with shower and non-slip tiles.

The Venetian Suite
Newly created in keeping with the Edwardian style, tastefully furnished and mirroring the charm of Venice. This spacious room is most comfortable and has access to a verandah and garden where ferns, bamboo and native shrubs provide a wonderful backtrop to the delightful water feature. It’s the perfect spot to unwind at the end of an active day and it also offers an alternative entrance.

There are twin or king size bed options. The attractive ensuite bathroom with shower is on the same level and is generously proportioned. This suite has full wheelchair access and facilities for the disabled.

The Guest Lounge & Dining Room
With Marlborough’s extensive range of restaurants, there is always somewhere different to dine, but guests are also welcome to enjoy the cuisine of The Peppertree (by prior arrangement) in the candlelit dining room or we can provide a platter for TWO. You can enjoy the evening in one of our garden’s lovely spots; enjoy local produce, homemade chutney and relish, walnuts and olives grown on the property and a glass of wine.

Guests are also always welcome to relax in the lounge with espresso coffee, a fine complimentary port or sherry complete with a good book and some classical music playing in the background.

Around the Gardens
The ten acres of grounds surrounding The Peppertree provide ample opportunity for Heidi and Werner to enjoy the agricultural pursuits that Marlborough is known for. Driving through the gate you pass the vineyard whose wine you'll be invited to enjoy at your arrival reception. You'll also sample the oil from The Peppertree's own olive grove and, when in season, pick and enjoy fresh Marlborough fruit from their very own orchard.
